John Paterson
17?? - 17??

John Paterson was Calum's Jamie's and Pippa's seven times great grandfather.

John Paterson married Margaret Campbell prior to 1719, and had a family of at least four children in Leitchtown (Litchtown, Leechtown) in the Port of Menteith in Perthshire.

CHILDREN of JOHN PATERSON and MARGARET CAMPBELL:
Janet Paterson
b: abt 20/9/1719

Janet was baptised in Leitchtown on 20 SEP 1719, noted as the lawfull daughter of John Paterson and Margt Campbell (SP/NRS OPR B 399/00 0010 Fr 53 Port of Menteith).

Margaret Patersone
b: abt 8/4/1722

Margaret was baptised in Leitchtown on 8 APR 1722, the lawfull daughter of John Patersone and Margaret Campbel (SP/NRS OPR B 399/00 0010 Fr 101 Port of Menteith).

Mary Patersone
b: abt 6/7/1729

Mary appears to have been another child to the couple, baptised on 6 JUL 1729 in Litchtown, Port of Menteith, although her mother is recorded as the lawfull daughter of John Patersone and Catherine Campbell, rather than Margaret Campbell.

However, the fact that she was John Patersone's lawful daughter (a legitimate child), the fact that there is no other record of a Catherine Campbell having children with John Patersone, and the fact that John and Margaret had at least one more daughter after Mary, would suggest that this is a simple recording error for her mother's name (SP/NRS B OPR 388/10 Fr. 126 Port of Menteith).

James Paterson
b: abt 15/5/1732

James was Calum's Jamie's and Pippa's six times great grandfather - see below.

Jean Paterson
b: abt 13/3/1737

Jean was baptised in Litchtown on 13 MAR 1737, noted as the lawfull daughter of John Paterson and Margaret Campbell (SP/NRS OPR B 399/00 0010 Fr 53 Port of Menteith).

James Paterson
abt 15/5/1732 - 1???

James Paterson was Calum's, Jamie's and Pippa's six times great grandfather.

James was born in May 1732 (SP/NRS OPR B 388/00 0010 Fr. 325 Port of Monteith):
May 15
James lawll son to John Paterson and Margaret Campbell in Litchton

James married Janet Graham in the Port of Mentieth, Perthshire, on 9 JAN 1761, the banns having been called from the previous December. The following is the wording of the parish register entry (Source: SP/NRS OPR M 388/00 0010 Fr 325 Port of Menteith):
Decr 18

James Paterson & Janet Graham parishioners - married Janry 9th

The couple settled immediately in an area called Loaning of Cardross, within Port of Menteith, where they were subsequently recorded as residing in NOV 1761 for the baptism of their first child (name unknown). They were again recorded here in DEC 1763 for the baptism of their son John, and in NOV 1765 for their son James.

From SEP 1768 they are found residing in Grahamstown for the baptism of their daughter Margaret, again in JAN 1772 for their daughter Agnes, and once again in FEB 1774 for daughter Janet.

From the baptism of their son Walter in DEC 1776 we learn that they had once again moved to a place within the parish of Port of Menteith called Tomachar, where they are again found in MAR 1780 for the baptism of their second daughter to be christened as Margaret.

It is not known what became of the couple after this.

Janet Paterson
17?? - 18??

Janet Paterson was Calum's, Jamie's and Pippa's five times great grandmother.

Janet or Jean Paterson was born at Grahamstown in the parish of Port of Monteith, Stirlingshire, and baptised there on 23 FEB 1774 (SP/NRS B OPR 388/00 0010 Fr.148 Port of Monteith):

Feby 23. Janet datr to James Paterson & Janet Graham in Grahamstown

Jean married Joseph Woodroffe, a soldier in the 26th Regiment of Foot, on 20 NOV 1803 in Stirling, and she settled back in the Port of Monteith, with Joseph away in Ireland on duty for a great part of the time. The OPR extract for the wedding reads:

Nov 20: Joseph Woodroff soldier 26th Regt Capt. Horne's Co. & Jean Paterson in this parish.

It is not known if this was the proclamation date or the actual wedding date itself.

In December 1806, Joseph died whilst en route with his regiment from his post in Ireland to Europe, leaving Janet a widow. At some point after this she moved to Edinburgh, where in 1831 she is listed as living with her daughter Joan.
